Hands On

This photograph, Hands On, shows one of several hands holding up a banister in a wonderful Venetian palazzo: Palazzo Bembo.  I love this railing; with its symbolic message to people navigating the steep marble steps, the creator amusingly beseeches over centuries, “Watch your step. Hands on the banister.”

I visited the Palazzo Bembo in Venice during the Biennale, a city wide, global art show in a variety of mediums.  Every two years, work from some of the world’s most renown artists is displayed. Some countries have permanent pavilions with selected artists representing them.  Then there is the Arsenale, the city’s former arsenal, as well as palazzos such as the Bembo, which host vast creative works from around the globe.

The 2015 Biennale runs through November 22nd.  For information on its events and exhibitions, see: la Biennale.

Built at the end of the 14th century by the prestigious Bembo family, the Bembo also has a hotel on its top floor: Hotel Palazzo Bembo.  I myself haven’t stayed there, but from the pictures, with its beautifully, typically Venetian, decorated rooms, it looks like it would add to anyone’s overall experience of Venice’s uniqueness
